Northern Lights - Labradorite Irish Penal Chaplet

Northern Lights - Labradorite Irish Penal Chaplet

Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made.”
— Romans 1:20

The beads of this chaplet are naturally luminescent pebbles of labradorite. In most light, they appear to be ordinary, everyday, pleasantly rustic pebbles: pale grays, speckled and striped. But when light hits them a certain way, they seem lit from within —there's a transient glow of vivid, pure color: blues, greens, gold, purple. It always reminds us of the Northern Lights.

The botonée cross is highly textured with raised knobs and dots. It's solid bronze, cast by hand from a 19th century Coptic antique.

The finger ring is also cast from a vintage original, in solid bronze.

Beads of solid brass separate the labradorite beads. The connecting rings are brass and bronze.

Chaplets of this configuration are known as Irish Penal Chaplets, or "Little Rosaries." They can easily be used to keep count of the prayers of a full five decade rosary, by looping the ring over one thumb and praying one decade, then moving the ring to each finger in turn, praying one decade at each position.
