"Barefoot on Holy Ground" variation iii - Mother of Pearl and Rhyolite - Handmade Rosary
“Earth’s crammed with heaven
And every common bush afire with God;
But only he who sees takes off his shoes…”
— Elizabeth Barrett Browning, from Aurora Leigh, 1856
When, at the burning bush, Moses realized that he was standing on holy ground, he removed his sandals. On holy ground, we go barefoot. All the world is holy ground. God is everywhere. God is here.
The crucifix and center of this rosary are both solid bronze, cast from antique originals.
The Pater beads are unique and irreplaceable. They’re hand-cut disks of mother of pearl, beautifully irregular — mainly luminescent white on one side — and these show a bit of the creamy beige portion of their shells on the other side. Alongside each Pater are ribbed beads of solid brass.
The stone Aves are rhyolite. Their colors of mottled greens, browns, and cream somehow always remind us of our world — at least the landscapes we grew up in!
Separating the Aves are small beads of matte glass. All the connecting rings are solid bronze.
The rosary is strung on premium quality Soft Flex jewelers’ cable, composed of 49 strands of steel encased in nylon, with a test-strength of 26 pounds. Each end is double-crimped for security.
